On the 28th January, Nick Hopper, Technical Director for Monodraught participated in the ECN event at RICS in London.  The focus of the event was the debate on natural v mechanical ventilation.
Nick has been responsible for many of Monodraught’s innovations and is a named inventor on numerous low energy building product patents.  Nick spoke about Monodraught’s vision for natural ventilation.  With more and more focus and regulation on reducing energy usage and carbon footprint, we believe that the climate here in the UK and Northern Europe can be harnessed to create a more natural ambiance within the built environment.
Natural ventilation is sustainable energy in action, providing the perfect solution for schools for both economic and health reasons.  Energy consumption can be kept low and a steady supply of fresh air coming into the building can keep oxygen levels high and remove stale air.  Monodraught’s aim is to provide high quality, low maintenance solutions which can drive down energy costs and increase building performance and green credentials. 
The event was well-attended with over 100 participants.  Speakers were from MBS Contracting, Cullinan Studio,             Eco-Airvent and Pinnacle ESP.  Steve Norwood from Pinnacle ESP used a case study on the re-development of Greenshaw High School, a project which includes Monodraught WINDCATCHER®  products.  Other topics included natural ventilation, indoor air quality, effective end-user controls, plus our own presentation on Hybrid Thermal Mixing System (HTM) and how to sustainably enhance the setting that you are living and working in.  There was a particular interest in energy consumption levels for the HTM product versus mechanical systems, with much less energy usage observed when measuring the output of the HTM system.
