Monodraught welcome the recent release of the BB101 guidelines, published by the government. This follows a public consultation with the public and industry figures. Monodraught’s Technical Director, Nick Hopper was one of the members of the advisory board during the consultation period.

The BB101 Building Bulletin provides guidance on ventilation, thermal comfort and indoor air quality in schools. The guidelines have been updated to align with the most recent industry best practice and health and safety standards.

Key areas of focus:

  • Detailed thermal comfort calculations to factor in adaptive thermal comfort (especially during summer periods) to reduce the need for unnecessary air conditioning and take advantage of passive solutions such as night-time cooling.
  • Setting ventilation standards for all areas within schools including regulations for SEN spaces, halls and technology rooms.
  • Strategies and guidance to reduce the impact of harmful indoor and external pollutants in schools.
