Unusual Applications

There is virtually no limit to the size of ceiling diffuser that can be manufactured and these special designs can be square, rectangular, hexagonal or octagonal. These type of applications are suitable for any sized SUNPIPE® natural daylight system but on very large applications the transition unit, as shown, would be made in sections and pot riveted on site.

This arrangement is ideal where the client wishes to preserve an existing feature light at ceiling level but wishes to give the effect of natural lighting coming through either obscure or coloured glazing.

It is also possible to provide two or more SUNPIPE® system serving the same transition unit.

Square SUNPIPE diffusers

Often sought after to match in with a 600mm x 600mm ceiling grid and these systems are supplied from stock. Again, these systems are suitable for 230mm, 300mm, 450mm, or 530mm diameter SUNPIPE and the depth of the transition unit is normally 300mm. With the larger systems, a even spread of light is achieved, although it has to be accepted that with the smaller dia SUNPIPE systems, there is more of a spotlight effect created.

The material used for these special diffusers is exactly the same as the SUNPIPE Super Silver and for smaller sizes, is supplied in a made up form but on larger sizes, more than 900mm x 900mm, the system is supplied prefabricated for final construction and pop riveting on site.

Any type of ceiling diffuser can be used for the Square SUNPIPE to match in with the remainder of the office decor.

Bespoke Terminations

The builder on this Oast house style kitchen extension wanted to use the SUNPIPE as the focal point of his kitchen design but also, adopted the clever use of an aluminium shroud to maintain the external line of the roof but still to over-line the roof and keep it in a traditional style while still making the maximum use of the Diamond SUNPIPE. With a clever twist, the builder also incorporated passive ventilation by providing an outer cavity around the SUNPIPE, which terminated in a series of ventilation slots around the SunPipe itself. Because of the intensity of the SUNPIPE, it is difficult to see the ventilation slots but it is an ideal arrangement for keeping a kitchen fresh and sweet.
